R. P. ABBEY
MY FIRST BOOK
Drawn from life, research and imagination, 'Boswells: Rom' had its Genesis with the remark about my great-grandfather, Philip Boswell - "He was an Irish Tinker and Horse Trader." Interest deepend when the author found his D.N.A. stretched from England through Eastern Europe to India - the migratory route of today's gypsies, or Romany. After leaving England he now lives in California with his wife, Ruth.
A teenage Romany Shuvani and her twin brother battle an ancient menace, traveling across time from Medieval England, France, Dracula's country and into ancient India to defeat the menace. It starts when an Archaeology professor goes for a stroll in an meadow, stumbles and finds an old coin. It ends with climatic battles between the Romany and their foes with the Shuvani facing her nemesis to save her brother who had sacrificed himself for her. When it is all over lives are changed for ever.
The period in this book spans the years 1940-1952 in the Abbey Inn, Daventry, England and were truly my happiest years. We did not live in a time of plenty as it was WWII and then the austere post-war years. I realized in later years what a unique childhood I had. How many folks could say their formative years were spent in an English Pub with all the characters that frequented it? Being blessed with a hard-working ingenious family? Yes the Abbey years were truly the best years!
